Meet Nikki

I’ve always been drawn to the moment where everything just clicks. In photography, it’s what Henri Cartier-Bresson called the “Decisive Moment”. In real life, it’s that instinct for timing, knowing when something works, or how to make it work. That’s pretty much how I approach everything I do.

I first picked up a camera in 1998 and never really stopped. What started as photography eventually grew into Nikki Sherman Creative, mostly because I realized I didn’t just love taking photos, I loved shaping the whole story. Writing, editing, layout, content…different tools, same goal: make things clear and make them feel right.

Over the years, I’ve worked across nonprofit, media and creative environments, usually somewhere in between roles rather than in just one lane. I’m just as comfortable writing and editing as I am organizing projects or helping bring structure to creative work. That mix, storytelling and organization, is where I tend to be most useful. I also genuinely love learning new things and sharing that with others, whether that’s mentoring, teaching, or just figuring something out alongside a team.

I’m drawn to work with some depth to it, especially personal stories, mental health, sports and the equine world. I always seem to find my way back to it.

I live on the outskirts of Philadelphia with my husband, Mike, and our cats Fiona and Petunia. I am also the owner of two retired Thoroughbreds, Alan’s Legacy and Wait For It, who are equal parts therapeutic and chaos.

Tidbits

A few quick things about me…

First concert?
*NSYNC. My dad loved sharing stories of seeing another father in the restroom, both silently shaking their heads, and sighing before exiting back into the mayhem.

Favorite comfort show or movie?
Silly comedies like Schitt’s Creek or any Harry Potter movie.

Most memorable sports moment?
While working: American Pharoah breaking the 37-year Triple Crown drought at the 2015 Belmont Stakes. I left with bruises from people clamoring for winner’s circle photos.

In person: Attending the Philadelphia Eagles’ first Super Bowl parade with my dad.

Favorite author?
Jenny Lawson (The Bloggess), whose witty writing about mental health manages to be both hilarious and hopeful.

Dream vacation?
Visiting Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany, which I finally got to do in 2024. It was everything I ever dreamed it could be.

Most unexpectedly rewarding volunteer experience?
Dropping off my cat Gingras to be neutered and ending up staying all day to help monitor feral cats coming out of surgery.

Favorite comedian?
Gareth Reynolds, stand-up comedian, TV comedy writer and podcast host (including The Dollop, We’re Here to Help and about 37 others).

How many colleges did you attend?
Seven. It also took seven years, which feels on brand.
